JERSEY: JFSC detects some deficiencies in treatment of PEPs
A Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC) investigation of Jersey financial services firms' treatment of politically exposed persons (PEPs) has uncovered some backlogs and deficiencies with periodic reviews for high-risk PEP customers, with some PEPs being declassified too early. The JFSC also found that some compliance monitoring plans were not testing the effectiveness of systems and controls to address risk associated with PEPs, because they had been outsourced. Jersey's 2023 national money laundering risk assessment identified its exposure to the higher risks of conducting business with customers who are either PEPs or who have a PEP connection.
